I am old enough to remember the steam era; our house backed onto the local branch line that closed in the mid-sixties. The railway tracks have been taken up, and the land has returned to its natural state. This page came about in 2021, thanks to one of my grandsons interested in trains of all types. He has developed his own YouTube channel shooting all his video and editing it on an old iPhone 7/iPad. He started to ask me if I would take him to video some trains when I could. After our first outing, I thought that this might be an opportunity for me to take my camera along and try and capture some images, which I am still trying to perfect.
Most of the images of steam trains are operated by heritage companies that arrange excursions around the United Kingdom using the mainline rail network. The only exception is the first image, operated by a charity based heritage railway owned and run by volunteers; there are about 130 heritage railways in the United Kingdom.

This steam excursion from London Victoria to Plymouth had been intended to have taken place in 2020 as part of the Mayflower 400. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower, sailing from Plymouth in 1620 to America with the founding fathers. But due to the Covid-19 virus out break the excursion took place over the 28th September and October 1st 2021. The lead engine is 45596, Bahamas with 61306 Mayflower behind.
